          ABOUT 5000 YEARS AGO

          2011.08.29 Monday

          0
About 5000 years ago, prehistoric people in Japan made earthen vessels and  clay figures.

2-1.jpg
             An earthen vessel.

Archeologists had thought their Vessels were only primitive.

4-1.jpg
             An earthen vessel.

But a few decades ago, Japanese famous artist Taro Okamoto
insisted repeatedly that these vessels and clay figures had very high artistic quality.

1.jpg
             Clay figures.

He thought they were very moving and he liked them very very much.

3-1.jpg
             An earthen vessel.

Many people changed their concepts and found their beautifulness for the first time.

He made his artwork Tower of the Sun.
I do not know wether it is a masterpiece or not, many people would notice the big influence of the clay figures.

I am reminded of Pablo Picaso and the wall paintings in Altamira cave in Spain.

Taro and Picaso did the almost same speech" No artists in the present day can make these kind of artworks."

Above three artworks are in The Shakado Museum of Jomon Culture.
The last one is in The Togariishi Museum of Jomon Culture.
